New Zealand Bike Trip

November 2008

The southern island of New Zealand had a variety of terrain and unspoiled land. The water was so clear and clean that people would stop and fill up their water bottles to drink. In the spring of the year, there was a lot of snow near the mountaintops. I did not know the Southern Alps went this far south.

This is one of the rain forests in New Zealand. We were near Lake Moreki and it rained and rained and rained. We were told they get 40 meters of rain each year! It was lush and beautiful. We went on a guided nature walk through the forest to get to the beach and watch penguins that were nesting there.

We biked through all types of terrain and followed rivers swollen with rain.
